ASHFORD AVENUE FIRST BANK ROBBER ARRESTED

SAN JUAN, P.R. - On April 30, 2008, a grand jury returned a two-count Indictment charging Carlos Dávila-Félix, also known as "Carlos Moña", of armed robbery, announced United States Attorney for the District of Puerto Rico, Rosa Emilia Rodríguez-Vélez. On May 1st, 2008, Carlos Dávila-Félix, age 42, was arrested, without incident, at the Manuel A. Pérez Public Housing Project in Río Piedras, Puerto Rico, by FBI Agents and officers of the Police of Puerto Rico's Bank Robbery Unit.

The indictment alleges that Dávila-Félix robbed $30,662.25 from the First Bank located on Ashford Avenue in Condado, Puerto Rico, in September 2003. Dávila-Félix went into the bank wearing a mask, threatened clients and clerks with a nickel-plated pistol and was able to take the money and escape. The defendant was convicted and served approximately 3 years on state charges for five other attempted bank robberies. If convicted, the defendant faces up to 20 years for the bank robbery charge, and, a minimum of 7 years up to life in prison for the armed robbery charge, and fines up to $250,000.00.

The case was investigated by the FBI and is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Ilianys Rivera Miranda.

"This Indictment reflects our continued commitment to prosecute violent crimes and promote safety in our community," said US Attorney Rosa Emilia Rodríguez-Vélez.

Criminal indictments are only charges and not evidence of guilt. A defendant is presumed to be innocent until and unless proven guilty.
