FBI ARRESTS IN PUERTO RICO AN ESCAPED FEDERAL PRISONER

Today, FBI agents and the Police of Puerto Rico arrested, without incident, Carlos David Garcia-Rivera, age 39, in Carolina, Puerto Rico. At the time of his arrest, Garcia-Rivera was residing with a female at Urbanization Villa Carolina, Calle 19, Block 20, #3, Carolina, Puerto Rico.

On January 22, 2004, Garcia-Rivera was sentenced in the Judicial District of Puerto Rico by U.S. District Judge Hector M. Laffitte to six years eight months imprisonment and five years probation upon his release for Conspiracy related to a Drug violation. Once committed to the custody of the U.S. Bureau of Prisons, on April 29, 2004, Garcia-Rivera was designated to a federal facility in Devens, Massachusetts. On July 30, 2004, Garcia-Rivera was transferred to the Atlanta Federal Prison Camp in Atlanta, Georgia.

On October 4, 2005, after the 4:00 p.m. inmate count, Garcia-Rivera was discovered missing from the Atlanta Federal Prison Camp. Attempts to locate Garcia-Rivera within and outside the prison camp were met with negative results. At which time, Garcia-Rivera was declared to be an escaped federal prisoner and a federal warrant was issued for his arrest. If convicted, Garcia-Rivera faces up to five additional years of imprisonment in addition to his already imposed sentenced.
