PRESS RELEASE FBI ARRESTS INDIVIDUAL FOR POSSESSION OF CHILD PORNOGRAPHY
On April 20, 2007, FBI Agents and the Police of Puerto Rico arrested, without incident, Juan Antonio Rivera-Candelario, age 26, at his residence in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico. On April 19, 2007, he was indicted by a federal grand jury in the U.S. District of Puerto Rico. The federal indictment alleges Rivera-Candelario knowingly possessed in his computer photographs and movies of minors engaging in sexually explicit conduct. If convicted of this federal violation, Rivera-Candelario faces a sentence of up to ten (10) years imprisonment. Anyone with any relevant information regarding Rivera-Candelario is strongly encouraged to contact the FBI at (787) 754-6000. This case is being investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the Police of Puerto Rico (POPR). This case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Jenifer Y. Hernández-Vega. The public is reminded that an indictment contains only charges and is not evidence of any guilt. A defendant is presumed innocent and entitled to a fair trial. The U.S. government has the burden of proving guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
